What are the requirements to get a truck driving job?
The Department of Transportation enforces certain requirements that every individual must meet before being hired by a truck driving company.  The requirements include:
  1. Must be at least 21 years of age
  2. Must be able to speak English
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen
  4. Must hold a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside
Keep in mind that every truck driving company will have their own set of requirements you must meet in addition to the federal ones.

Are there any physical requirements?
A Department of Transportation physical exam is mandated for all individuals applying for a truck driving job.  The exam is given to ensure individuals are capable of operating a commercial truck safely and do not have any physical conditions that would prevent them from doing so.

Are drug tests required?
You will be required to take a drug test prior to employment and most companies require random testing during employment.  Failing a drug test will most likely result in termination, especially if you test positive while you have been driving.

Do I have to go to truck driving school or can I get a CDL on my own?
You are not required to attend truck driving school in order to get a CDL; you may test on your own for a CDL at your nearby DMV.  However, truck driving school is highly recommended so you can receive the exact training you need to successfully pass a CDL test.

I hear most truck drivers are paid by the mile.  Is there an average cents per mile rate in the industry?
The average pay for a company truck driver in the United States is about 32 cents.  However, company drivers can make up to 50 cents a mile and owner operators can make upwards of nearly $1.50 a mile.  The amount you make will depend on the amount you drive.

Are truck drivers allowed to bring along passengers on rides?  What about pets?
This depends on the company you drive for, but most trucking companies allow their drivers to bring along driving companions and even pets, especially on long-haul trips.

What does it take to become an owner operator?
Experience!  The more experience you have as a regular truck driver, the more prepared you are to become an owner operator.  Many truck driving companies offer lease programs, which allow experienced drivers to lease trucks through them and essentially start their own driving business.  As an owner operator, you will be able to pick and choose the loads you haul and when you drive.

Once I submit an application, where does it go?
Based on the information you provide on your application, we will pass it on to trucking companies throughout Texas that are looking to hire drivers with your qualifications, experience, and skills.

Are there any costs to apply?
There are absolutely no costs to apply and use our services.

I am moving to Texas from out-of-state.  Will my CDL still be valid there?
It really depends on the state of Texas and your previous driving experience.  States have the individual right to decide if new residents that are truck drivers are able to keep their current CDL or if they have to retest for a new one issued in the new state.  If you have a good driving record and ample experience, they may choose to honor your CDL; otherwise you will be required to retest for a CDL issued in Texas.

Can I apply if I am not a current truck driver?
Absolutely.  If you have interested in becoming a professional truck driver, we will help you find truck driving schools in your area so you can begin a new career in the trucking industry.

I have not been driving for more than six months, but would like to find a new trucking job.  Can I apply?
Yes!  Even if you have not been driving for more than six months, we can help you find a great trucking job.  Depending on the company, you may be required to complete a driver training program since you have not been driving for more than six months.  The program should help reacquaint you with driving procedures, company policies, and how to safely operate the equipment you will be driving.

Will I have to drive all over the country or can I get a job driving just within Texas?
There are several different types of truck driving jobs that you can choose from.  Regional and local jobs will allow you to stay within Texas, either within a certain area or throughout the state.  Long-haul truck drivers deliver goods throughout all 48 states.  We will help you find a truck driving job that best fits your specific employment needs.

What type of industries will I be driving for?
Agriculture is the number one industry in Texas, followed by the oil industry.  Texas businesses often contract with trucking companies to have goods grown and produced in the state transported throughout Texas and to the rest of the United States.  You may be transporting anything from crops to cattle to fuel and everything in between.

Can you assist current truck drivers in finding new truck driving companies to work for?
Yes!  Whether you are unhappy with your current employer or would like to begin a new job elsewhere, we will help you find a great truck driving job in the area of your choice.
